The Study at University of Chicago is currently seeking a dynamic and self-starting Sales Manager, to manage and create opportunities in major market areas through direct sales solicitation, telephone contact, written communications, and involvement in the community. This position will be responsible for developing and fostering business through pro-active sales planning, as well as driving guest loyalty by delivering a thoughtful and engaging sales experience.

This position has a base salary of $70,000 plus quarterly bonus potential.  

Responsibilities 

  • Acquire and develop new business accounts and prepare sales proposals for clients. 

  • Set-up appointments with customers to present our services and products as necessary. 

  • Support the hotel’s service and relationship strategy, driving customer loyalty by delivering service excellence throughout each customer experience. 

  • Identify client needs and establish solutions to address client business problems. 

  • Research new potential opportunities within territory; to include referrals within existing customer base. 

  • Develop “target accounts” identified within the territory and document progress through account management strategies. 

  • Develop business plans and update them monthly to reflect strategies to successfully achieve territory quota. 

  • Work closely with Director, Sales & Marketing to ensure proposed rate negotiations meet the financial needs of the hotels. 

  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports to reflect current and projected revenue, as well as client activity. 

  • Accompany the team on sales calls to potential clients to assist in development of the account. 

  • Develop relationships within the community to strengthen and expand customer base for sales opportunities. 

  • Represent hotel and the company in various events and exhibitions. 

Fundamentals 

  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of work experience in Hotel Sales, concentration in business travel or university markets in a full-service property is preferred. 

  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills are vital to effectively negotiate, influence, persuade, and sell. 

  • Demonstrated ability to understand customer needs, requirements, and translating these into sales solutions. 

  • Dynamic, enthusiastic, creative leader who thrives under pressure and can perform multiple functions and troubleshoot when needed. 

  • Skilled in the use of computer and software programs associated with Sales and Catering, such as Delphi, and hotel property management systems. 

  • Strong computer skills utilizing Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. 

  • Fulfills Manager-on-Duty shifts, as needed. 

  • Strong organizational skills including follow up, time management, ability to multi-task, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Ability to positively communicate and interact with all hotel departments.
